It is said that every girl needs a little black dress (I say we need more but no one asked). I also believe that every girl (or anyone else for that matter) needs one ingredient that can cross all boundaries, be casual but not ordinary or downright over the top formal. It’s the ingredient that shines at any occasion. For me, its chicken and it is endless in how it can be served. It can be chopped for salads, sauteed, roasted, braised, poached, grilled, barbecued, marinated, processed into lunchmeat (????), made into sausage, fried and baked – just to name a few ways it can be cooked. (PS, it is also economic. That’s a biggie for me).

It is my desire to celebrate the chicken, learn its history and share some recipes.

According to mnn.com/earth-matters/animals/stories we have an answer. Thanks to NPR’s Robert Krulwic, it’s the EGG!!! In an eggshell, chicken-like animals got hooked up and produced an egg. (The article makes for good reading and has a video as well). So now, we can find other issues to circle around. Aren’t you glad there are people who actually do these studies?
